War Poet.ca - A CFAP Project by Suzanne Steele

wordless

none for four
plus one
stunned
the deadly turn
a year ended
a year begun
the terrible march
one
after
one
after
one
after
one
after
one
the terrible march
for four
plus one.

Surely, this is not how you envisioned “leave”, is it? I waited for your words and now what do I say? Tears, either, are not enough. Well said, Suzanne: your staccato syllables breaking the silence.
This poem is like a heavy weight pressing me. I cannot, will not, watch the television coverage; I come here to see and feel what you write because you give it sincere and private air. Is that because videos, photos, journalists’ words do not describe what this really is? Your grief. My grief.

Your poem awakens all senses, right down to the taste of salty tears.
