sniper lesson (3)

where there is wind, be wind
where there is ocean, be sea
where there is forest, be tree
be salal, be, just be
desert, just be vine,
just be the earth, the earth
red desert sublime, the rhyme of leaf,
grain, the rain, the strain
of black granite, be, just be,
the curve, the bark, the sea,
green wheat, the curl, the furl
of slow, slow, slow, silently,
soft as softest bayonet of breath
make all moves deliberate,
soft belly-step, target, hold,
breathe, breathe, ease into it,
deliberate, no second chance,
this danger dance deliberate
as if each left right left
might be your last.
