on news of the tsunami

the one suffering wants only to help. Bosnian vet. PTSD his constant companion for 20 years. 6’3” tall, Patricia, lost for a few decades outside a uniform. shoulders soft bent to protect brokenness. hears of the tsunami, wants to catch the next plane just as he had for the last terrible tsunami. “I’d dig. sweep. search. anything. anything to help.”

the one suffering wants only to help. A’stan vet. PTSD his constant companion for 9 months. 24 going on 80. uniform pressed, ambered, in dry cleaner bags. his eyes stare, always on high alert, unaware of his brokenness. hears of the tsunami, wants to catch the next plane. “let me help. let me help. I can help.”

the one suffering wants only to help. Bosnia, Yugo., A’stan vet. PTSD his constant companion for X years. uniform clean. worn every day. even days his head, his stare is a million miles away. hears of the tsunami, wants to come to the west coast. “are you okay? should I come? I can help. let me help. just say when.”

broken, even suffering, that’s what they do. they want to help. they need to help. let them if they can.

no shit.

Taking a deep breath, allowing many tears to flow.
