Night Letters #6 F is for fear

I’m afraid,
did you hear?

this war
nearer & near;

I, mere steps

and you, your ear
cocked only
for what’s coming
up your drive,

crunch of gravel
door flung open, wide,
mad footsteps across your hardwood floor,

you lock your door;

but I’m afraid
not of drama,
your dis – ease,

but of these,

my steps,
one right, one left
closer, closer,

to war.
