Little Corner of England (50)

On this platform we did meet
Where you swept me off my feet
We married and a son we had
Much loved husband fantastic Dad
Steve Cruley, age 26, Afghanistan, 2010

(Plaque at Exeter railway station)

To Shrewsbury town dusk, now, a train
Train past fields, hail-rail, hail the downs
Train, past the iron-bled earth, wired,

To Shrewsbury town.

Train the eyes, rail the eyes to ground
Train away from widows’ unadmired
Song of song, her silent metal psalm

Wedgewood-blue ceramic plaque,
O Little corner of England run down, down, down
Platform Five with plastic sacks, Beaujolais, and crinkly snacks,

To Shrewsbury town.
