War Poet.ca - A CFAP Project by Suzanne Steele

lazarus (55)

we were made
made for a world, the world

you stepped, your boot laces tied
tied tight

bind, bound, rebound, rebind

Lazarus, rise, rise
the honey-fingered Dawn

acrossour nakedness, across
a Russian schoolhouse, abandoned

Afghanistan, mere
the long patrols you stepped

wept long, wept hard, wept
gone. gone. gone.

Lazarus. remember a plate
of strawberries, a croissant
a bowl of porridge in a bed.

Lazarus, rise, rise
you are no longer Dead.
