I walk the field redux

I Walk The Field (Christmas 2013)

I walk the field in dark, no light to guide,
Just night, vision of ice and snow-shawled hill
Graze of cedar, graze of blue heron hunkered
Still against whited sky; my dogs unleashed
Into winter’s ash, winter’s dust, huge circles
Of wild, bite, growl, yip, half-wolf breaking
Orbit, they run fast, straight into dark forever.
Beneath my feet, snow-squeak, for beloveds
I walk, beloveds who sleep deep cradled,
The cradle of my heart, my heart, so deep
O Love, o arms of laugh, embrace all feast,
Do not forget, do not waste, only seek
Then walk, walk with me, the field of light,
Searching for that brilliant star, o love, so bright.
