don't look here

for I.E.

Don’t look here for horror, there’s already
enough photographed, written, memorized
from this and every other war
to sate our hungry Gorgon’s eye.
No, horror here, is not my truth,
I was spared by mercy, watchful eyes
kept from mortared schools, mined routes,
the bombed-out roof, the headless
ANA fallen by the roadside, his motorcycle
still revving, no that was not for me
the heavy load, it’s somebody else’s,
he shakes like dice to sleep each night.
No horror here, I won’t apologize,
at my feeble words, this half-cast light.
